Orchestras Inc is West Sussex Music’s accessible music programme that brings young people from schools across the county together to rehearse and perform as part of a larger community of musicians.
Engaging in weekly online singing and instrumental sessions led by our wonderful music leaders prepares young people for regular face to face meet ups where they can sing and play alongside peers from other schools.
Over 100 children in West Sussex special schools have been participating in our programme since 2018, and in September 2022 our offer extended to children working with SENCOs in mainstream schools.
We have a small team of inclusive music leaders who deliver online singing and instrumental sessions centred around a termly theme. These sessions culminate in ‘roadshows’, when the young people who have been participating online come together at a venue to rehearse and perform as part of a larger community of musicians.
"Some of the boys at Brantridge were extremely reluctant to engage in any form of performance art prior to the sessions led by Emily and Jo. Now, however, music and performance has become an integral part of our teaching. Boys who have never picked up an instrument before now have requested extra lessons in their own time."Sam Lyons Teacher at Brantridge School
“Today was magical and all our pupils loved it. There was so much learning taking place and activities to take part in and we all had a blast! Including myself!”Rosie Gilbert Teacher at Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee School
